I have two older children who are both neurodivergent. Navigating my children’s neurodevelopmental needs alongside the inevitable challenges of growing up as small children and teenagers has been challenging and very rewarding.
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition first and foremost. If left undiagnosed and not treated, asymptomatic depression and anxiety is very common. During my 20 years of clinical practice I have spotted the signs and symptoms of undiagnosed ADHD, Autism and AuDHD (ADHD and Autism combined) where my clients have been primarily treated for anxiety and/or depressed mood by their GPs but the original neurodivergent cause(s) remained undiagnosed.
Not all neurodivergent people are the same. One must not simply place individuals in the ‘ADHD Box’. You’re not all the same! What I am talking about here are Traits. Each individual has different traits according to the diagnostic scale of ADHD. I specialise in ADHD counselling that can help people to accept and to understand their diagnosis. I help people to decipher what their particular ADHD traits mean for their lives and how best to tailor a lifestyle that suits them and their families best.
There are drawbacks of having ADHD that can be best managed. And there are huge benefits. Conventional ways of approaching life don’t always suit a person with ADHD. Rather than trying to fit into a mould that can create and exasperate stress and anxiety, I can help you to find a more authentic way of living that suits you best.
If you are unaware of how your individual traits of ADHD affect you and those closest to you. There can be negative consequences for you, your partner and extended families. My integrative approach to ADHD counselling can help you understand yourself in a more pragmatic and compassionate way. When you consult me for ADHD counselling, I will start by having you walk me through all the ways your ADHD plays out in your daily patterns, struggles, successes and interactions. Together we can discern a better way to live with ADHD. Contact me now.
